AYURVEDA IN SRI LANKA

Ayurveda = The doctrine of the right way of life

The Indian term Ayurveda means “the knowledge of life” or in medical terms “the knowledge of the right way of life” (ayur = life, veda = knowledge). Through Ayurveda, health is to be maintained and diseases are to be fought by strengthening the self-healing powers. Diseases are always caused by disturbance of the balance in the body. The Ayurvedic teachings can be traced back to the 8th century B.C. and probably influenced the Egyptian as well as the Greek art of healing.

The building blocks of life are earth – water – fire – air – ether.
From these five elements we are created and controlled by three dynamic principles, by the Tridosas Vata – Pitta – Kapha.
When the unstable balance between the Dosas is disturbed, disease can be the result. The task of the Ayurvedic doctor is to recognize and treat these disturbances. Pulse diagnosis provides information about the patient’s current state of health and helps to establish the healing plan. To restore the harmony of the dosas there are five different purification procedures prescribed by the doctor. In addition, a very special diet is ordered for the patient.

Cleaning method

Only a cleansed body can process the taken medicines well, therefore great attention is paid to cleansing the body. Through whole body oil massages, sweating in a steam bath, hot water drinking cure and through intestinal cleansing the waste products are removed from the body. The classic cleansing cure can now be extended with us by a preceding ghee cure. This form of cleansing is offered in very few spas, as it requires very intensive medical care, but significantly improves the success of the cure
